Richard Birdsey
For over 30 years Richard has worked with organisations on many different aspects of environmental management sustainability, looking as incorporating these principles into supply chains.
His first career was as a marine biologist at James Cook University, working in New Zealand and Australia. From there he moved into a wide variety of roles in the NSW Government, mostly in environment, procurement and health portfolios.
Richard was heavily involved with the NSW Government’s highly respected Sustainability Advantage Program, working with businesses, NGOs and NFPs to incorporate ESG and sustainability into their operations. He was instrumental in starting the first Australian government program working to manage modern slavery risk in government supply chains.
Richard now works in the private sector, joining forces with his wife and business partner Sonja Duncan.

Sonja Duncan
Driven by a passion for social and environmental sustainability (and recognising the important role business plays in achieving global sustainability targets) Sonja has dedicated her career to working at the intersection of business, sustainability and human rights.
An outcomes-focused leader, her objective is to help corporates create positive social and environmental impact and mitigate the risk of negative impacts. Combining subject matter expertise with on-the-ground practical experience puts Sonja in a unique position to guide and facilitate change.
With strong people skills she can successfully engage from the tearoom to the boardroom, bridging silos and ensuring fit-for-purpose solutions for material sustainability issues.
As a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Sonja has a solid understanding of corporate governance principles, policies and practices.
Sonja is currently on the board of the African STEM Education Initiative (ASEI).
Academia and work aside, she enjoys immersing herself in nature and exploring the world on two-wheels. Adventure motorcycling is her newest passion and as an avid adventure sports lover, she also represented Australia at the Women’s World Hang Gliding Championships in Austria the early 90s.

Teya Duncan
Teya is a social impact and modern slavery specialist with a background in research, supply chain, stakeholder engagement and working with vulnerable persons.
She was instrumental in the development of a major bank’s first modern slavery statement and was the NSW state manager an international Not-For Profit delivering sports programs and work opportunities to vulnerable people.
Teya is an advocate for partnerships in social development and aim to increase collaboration across business, civil society and government.
She is also passionate about implementing sustainability and human rights practices into her everyday life. She has been vegan for 10 years and aim to be zero-waste where possible.
Teya’s passions outside of work include cooking, travel, sports and theatre. She represented NSW in Gymnastics and has performed professionally as an actor and singer in Australia and the United States.
